UK: New flu virus mutation could see 'worst season in a decade'
Professor Nicola Lewis, director of the World Influenza Centre, says this year’s flu dynamics are “unusual” and “concerning.”
Flu’s R is estimated at 1.4 vs 1.2 normally, meaning 100 cases could spread to 140 instead of 120.

While they’re still screwing about with SNAP, it’s a good idea to donate to pet shelters, too.
If you dare show up with “poor people shouldn’t have pets”, I will tear such a new one it generates a black hole.

Families on SNAP worry about not just feeding themselves but also their pets
With SNAP benefits going out late, nonprofits are begging for pet food donations to prevent desperate owners from surrendering their dogs and cats to animal shelters.

And even when what you do is not some epic battle against evil or grand discovery that will cure all human ills, but, like, making people's drinking water a little safer.
I think there is purpose and honour in making an effort to alleviate suffering in this world… even when the task is overwhelming.

This means I am an older female community member that may or may not be related through blood or marriage to younger members of the community…
My friend Zoe, who is English, is an “Aunty” too… and David, who is Irish is an Uncle… also totally unrelated.

The big science accounts are talking about immune dysregulation due to COVID-19 now.
I. Told. You. So.
Infection does confer antibodies and T cells against C19… but it also takes a wrecking ball to the immune system as a whole.
Stop burning down your house. (Metaphorically.)

100%. Even in “affluent” areas, schools fail to invest in technology and infrastructure that provides clean and healthy air. Hell, they can’t even reliably enforce sick policy to help prevent the spread of viruses

I was in the ER yesterday with my partner (non virus issue) and there were so. Many. Sick children. I know some of them had flu/ covid bc we overheard it. None were masked. Barely anyone there was masked. Meanwhile I’m IC hoping I don’t end up hospitalized for being a good partner.

I’ve used WA Health’s COVID-19 wastewater surveillance page to estimate the number of infections of BA.3.2.
I estimate ~1,100 BA.3.2.* infections in Perth for the latest week, and ~5,700 over the 11 weeks since BA.3.2.* was first detected.

One of the interesting side effects of banning younger people from making accounts is that they can no longer block topics and curate content. This leads to increased frequency of extremist materials being seen.
