Smoke from from the Canadian fire has gotten really bad here in Eastern SD. Yesterday there was just a haze in the air. Today that haze is thicker and you can smell it.

A little good news, honestly news I was not expecting. I really hope the State Library gets the other half of the grant.
South Dakota's state librarian said half of his organization's annual federal funding is on the way, and he believes the other half will be delivered. But the "emotional ride" for the #StateLibrary continues with uncertain future federal funding and state funding cuts.

This is very unexpected. I kept waiting to hear that the SD State Library was receiving no IMLS grant money. The promised full grant would have been better news though.

SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

This had me stressed for the last month. One more thing that ruined my sleep. Thank goodness for the amendment and the legislators that voted for it.
The South Dakota House voted Tuesday to accept Senate changes to a controversial bill regarding obscene materials in school and public libraries, creating a clearer appeal process for concerned citizens.
