NEW from me: China's CO2 emissions fell ~1.6% in the first quarter and have now been flat or down for more than a year. This is the first time on record that emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand.

In November last year the National Audit Office warned that cuts to flood defence spending meant that 25% of flood defence projects had been abandoned and 40% fewer homes would be protected by 2027. A year later, we have this. But the problem isn't actually as simple as government underspending. 1/6
