That's usually what I do. I'm not organised enough to keep an actual list, but I download samples of anything that catches my fancy, and then read them as the mood takes me. :)

Okay, I'm intrigued.
I'm a bit vague on the exact period, but if it's late enough gunpowder was a thing (even if removed), that's already non-medievalesque enough for me.

I recently finished A Winter's Mercy, by Phil Williams, and The Drowned Heir, by Jenifer R. Donohue. Both were excellent.
