My novella Emma's Story is a tale about a young woman facing a big decision she’s not quite ready to make.
There’s also a bear, sleigh rides in the snow, and hot whiskey by the fireplace.

If you're looking for wintry fairytale vibes and dark forests, this is for you.

This is a recurring (but minor) theme in my books.
Sometimes (often), bad shit happens for no reason to people who don't deserve it - or the other way around.

The world is chaotic, uncaring, and unfair, but that doesn't mean we who live here have to be.

It ties back to something I once read (1/4)

It's weird how it's sometimes so challenging not to get into an argument with people I don't know, about things that are none of my business.

It's the culmination of a series of cool calculations:
1 × 1 = 1
11 × 11 = 121
111 × 111 = 12321
1111 × 1111 = 1234321
11111 × 11111 = 123454321
111111 × 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 × 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 × 11111111 = 123456787654321

Hello #AwesomeCharacters

The most important character, by far, that doesn't show up in the story is Roy.
He's an old friend who once had a major crush in Toni (the MC), and who parted ways with her in a very bad way when he realised she didn't feel the same.

Toini never wants to see him again.
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Are there any characters that are important to your story but who haven't appeared in person on the page?

Someone historical? Or who died before the events of the story? Or someone absent for other reasons?

My novella Emma's Story is the prize in today's giveaway, and it was chosen as it contains a scene a lot of readers seem to remember.

It's where Emma enjoys a cup of hot whiskey by a fireplace after a long day spent driving a horse drawn sled along wintry forest roads.

I have a hard time thinking of any setting I'd like to visit, or that I'd even survive in for an extended period of time.

That said, the Roc, from the Blood Scouts series by @fantasticphil.bsky.social is an amazingly realised setting, and I look forward to exploring it further.

In an attempt to distract myself from marketing my new book in a productive way, I created a portrait mode version of the book trailer.

It does look rather fancy, but that's obviously me saying so. ;)

The weather's been mild, and I normally work out of the office, so I still haven't turned on the heating in the apartment.
Now, the one day I'm working from home, the temperature drops and I'm sitting here bundled up enough I can barely move.

Not sure if I'm complaining or bragging...

The simplest one is just 1) over-exposure.

You cannot expect a reader to take seriously, as a threat, in a cosmic horror, a being of which I can buy a chibi plush at Hot Topic.

Toini's cheeks heated up anyway, knowing exactly what kind of thought must have gone through her sister's head. Clearly, the flowers growing out of her head and that changed colour with her mood weren't the kind you'd find at your local florist's.
