Universal Healthcare, Unconditional Basic Income, AI Dividend!

"We’ll provide a universal basic income if adequate-paying jobs are unavailable. Face it: AI will permanently replace many jobs. No family should be left in the cold. The universal basic income won’t be so high as to make families comfortable, but it will be enough to keep them out of poverty."

Pete Buttigieg says citizens should get a share of the value created by AI, like a dividend.

"Why shouldn't we all get a share? Instead of it all going to a tiny handful of super wealthy people."

ok but for real if you want to make a really good indie (or AA) games the number one way is "be financially comfortable via other means"

blue prince guy owned a popular website generating income, toby fox was a successful musician...

frankly if we had a UBI youd get SO MANY GOOD GAMES

The focus should be on implementing stuff like UBI, not trying to fruitlessly put stuff back in Pandora's Box.

We should've had UBI even before all of this, and it's even more important now.

I'm so sick of billionaires talking about how they're going to eliminate jobs without also talking about how badly we need universal basic income and what they're personally doing to make it happen as soon as possible. They already owe us restitution for decades of unshared productivity growth.

It is no coincidence that so much of the US is poor, and the rich have gotten so rich. Stop looking down to find someone to blame. Stop looking at your neighbors to find someone to blame. LOOK UP. Inequality is destroying us.

About those $5,000 "DOGE dividend" checks, if they actually happen, they're going to be more like <$200, and that's per household not per person, and none will go to the bottom 40% of households, which includes at least a third of all Trump voters. This is not even close to a UBI.
What's the deal with the $5,000 'DOGE Dividend' checks?
Is it like a stimulus check, or a tax credit, or even universal basic income? Read on. On February 18, 2025, a man named James Fishback (an advisor to the 'Department of Government Efficiency') sha...

My biggest argument for UBI is to just think of a world in which our survival needs are no longer locked behind labor.

Less people trapped in abusive relationships. Less scamming as people don't need to wheel and deal for money to survive.

Think of what we could create together

A big justification for universal basic income is that if the real median wage had grown as much as productivity grew over this same period of time, all three lines would be near $50 per hour. UBI can be seen as a GDP dividend. Wages will never fairly distribute GDP growth. UBI can do it directly.

Stop it. Enough. The tests for deservedness are wasteful and stigma-creating. No one cares what wealthy people do with all their passive income. Just provide universal basic income as a universal floor. Treat the poor and middle class like the rich. Let jobs increase total income. End welfare traps.

If you are a supporter of UBI, this thread is worth reading.

I use to have my reservation about this, but the more I read and the facts I see about it, it's clear, UBI is not just about dignity but economic growth as well.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

Enough dystopia. Just do universal basic income and tax the rich. Stop coming with ways of determining the deserving. Provide universally and tax those with high incomes more than they get. Done.

Stories like these are only going to become more & more commonplace from now on!
We NEED to DEMAND an AI Dividend for All or UBI, NOW!
AI exists thanks to a societal quantity of data collected from all of us, so it owes us all a return on that data-investment.
If we don't, our economy will collapse.

Universal Basic Income and Universal Healthcare [and that includes dentistry wtf].

For EVERYONE. If you exist, you deserve these basic fucking needs met. Think about how much progress we could make as a society if these simple needs were met.

Yes. Embrace UBI. Frame it as an automation dividend. Our data is the capital that trained AI. We deserve to be treated like stockholders. Pay us.

It should not be considered politically viable to even mention something like this without simultaneously talking about the need for Universal Basic Income. It should be considered political malpractice to leave UBI unmentioned.

AI companies were never going to let IP laws get in the way. The demand needs to be for universal basic income as a dividend. We are all owed UBI for AI being trained on our data and our work. And this goes back generations even to AI trained on public domain works.
