PhD in paleobotany. I'm working on fossil wood from the Cenozoic. I'm interested in anatomical evolution, biogeography and paleoenvironments.
This is the third paper from my thesis 👏. This time focusing on paleobiogeographical interpretations with 6 unique species.

Fossil wood is a treasure trove of information waiting to be unearthed 🌳.

Many thanks to @annbot.bsky.social for this thread

🎉 Good news! The paper ‘Persistence of Gondwanan woods in Myanmar through the Paleogene’ in @annbot.bsky.social by Nicolas Gentis and co-authors is now #free for 2 weeks 🧵(1/6)

Amazing workshop last week in Arles, focused on how integrating geological and paleoclimatological constraints in phylogenetic and biogeographic reconstructions! 11 countries, 55 people, and 3 days of talks and brainstorming with a balanced group of biologists, geologists and climatologists.

This is my PhD trophy (a tradition in our team) and I LOVE it! I've indeed worked partly on Dipterocarpaceae... which explains the fruit.

Not a fossil for #fossilfriday but another #watercolor illustration from the Middle Miocene of Myanmar done by my mother. You can see Dipterocarps in full bloom, a Dipterocarpus and an Artocapus. #paleoart

For #FossilFriday here is a mandala of some raw fragments of fossil wood. You have Fabaceae, Moraceae and Dipterocarpaceae here.

Congratulations to T. Durieux who just got his second lead author paper from his PhD project accepted. The paper describes a new species of woody tree that was growing about 360 million years ago in what is now Ireland 🌲⛏️ doi.org/10.1016/j.re...

What is the best collaboration I had ? My mother, who made this watercolor landscape illustration of the Paleocene of Myanmar for one of my thesis chapters 🥳

Perfectly ripe persimmon (kaki, in french) showing the vascularisation. I found it fascinating... and delicious !
