All about equity through education. Assistant Headteacher - sixth form & SENDCo. Spinning lots of plates including being a mum of three wonderful little (and not so little) humans, and remembering to feed the tortoise 🐢
As much as I’m interested in what’s going on in the US, I don’t want my entire Bluesky feed to be full of it! Who should I follow for non-US stories?..

At Cabaret yesterday, Cliff said his line “…if you’re not against all this then you’re for it. Or you might as well be”. The audience interrupted the scene to applaud that line so strongly it stopped the show. Doing a show about the onset of fascism right now is. . . chilling.

I can't lie, this is so soothing right now
Asteroid's chances of hitting Earth have nearly doubled in a week, ESA scientist warns
An steroid up to 300ft wide now has a 2.2% chance of colliding into Earth. It could prompt a space mission to intercept it.

Some people in recent days have alleged a ‘cover-up’ over the grooming & rape of hundreds of young girls in predominantly northern UK towns, leading to calls for a ‘national’ public inquiry into child sexual exploitation

FWIW here’s a non-exhaustive list of inquiries into #CSE in last 12 yrs…

A great thread on what ‘fun’ means in a school context: I like to think of it as meaningful vs superficial fun. (Is it too much to have sub-categories of fun? 🤷‍♀️)
Sometimes you need just the right prompt to think about things the right way and Michael’s assembly has reminded me of one of mine and has crystallized what I think about making the curriculum more fun.

Any other teacher folk feeling the start-of-term-dread kick in?! It’s going to be tough waking up on Monday morning! How are you making the most of your weekend?

I’ll be starting my new year by writing to my MP.

Whilst grades aren’t everything, they are significant & open more doors for our students & enable social mobility. My school is on a journey: rated inadequate in July 2022, we have transformed our school and achieved a P8 score of +0.6… So proud of my colleagues and our amazing students!

Reform MP James McMurdock (won his seat by 98 votes) didn't disclose his conviction for assaulting his partner before the GE

He went on to describe it as a "teenage indiscretion"

The Times now reveals he "kicked his girlfriend" repeatedly

Australian-style ban on social media for under-16s is “on the table” if tech companies don't take action to protect kids.

Tech sec Peter Kyle tells Ofcom to be more assertive with firms ahead of new legal powers coming into force in 2025.

He suggests UK could “another level of regulation” if not.

We all need to have a long, hard think… the impact of social media on young lives can be absolutely devastating. Should it be banned for under-16s? There’s certainly a compelling argument here 👇🏻
