On 8 February 2025, the 100,000 cubic metre Jinping landslide killed 29 people and injured two more in Sichuan Province, China. The failure occurred on a steep rock slope, and then transition into a >1 km rock and debris avalanche.

Seen this morning just outside the HPPA offices: Pele's hair!
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is seeing an increase in Pele's hair falling around the Kīlauea summit and nearby communities. These fine strands of volcanic glass are formed during eruptions and can cause skin and eye irritation.

A man in Prince Edward Island got doubly lucky last July, recording a meteorite's impact on his home security cameras. The space rock also landed in the exact spot he'd been standing minutes earlier.
