There is a fiber-optic cable carrying a lot of information between Hiro's computer & the rest of the world. In order to transmit the same amount of info on paper, they'd need a 747 cargo freighter packed w/phonebooks & encyclopedias to power-dive into their unit every 2 minutes forever.
