At least three board members should be impeached immediately. At least one lawyer should be disbarred. And the search committee should stop the presidential search right now and wait until there is a new and legal board in January.

my takeaway from this letter is that glenn youngkin, rector sheridan and their flunkies on the board are deeply dishonest people who are engaged, with the trump administration, in a mob-style shakedown against the university of virginia
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

An excerpt from Jim Ryan's letter in response to Rector Sheridan's letter to UVA faculty: "Paul Manning reached out directly to the DOJ lawyers to make sure he was not missing anything, and he said that they told him that if I didn’t resign, they would “bleed UVA white.”” (Link in comments)

Bp. Oscar Cantú: “ If we don’t have the courage as bishops—as pastors to speak the truth in defense of human dignity—then who will?”

One thing you can say about Nuggets fans, Denver sports fans in general: We are loud as shit. Especially when we find a player we call our own. Welcome home, Brucey B. 🤠🏀
Bruce Brown:

On the ovation he got in his homecoming reception:

"It felt great. Obviously I'm back at home. Love being in a #Nuggets uniform and being in Denver."

On DEN's defense:

"It's a work in progress. It's new for everyone... so we got some cleaning up to do."

Reading _Dilexi te_ piecemeal throughout the day as I attempt to finishing prepping my grad seminar. I am captivated by the Marian framing & the clear depiction of the preferential option using Rev 3:8-9 in the opening paragraph. The reflections on the "cry of the poor" are also great. More soon!

I continue to be inspired to greater solidarity (intellectual, practical, aesthetic) by this developing story. Pope Leo lifts up Latine Catholics accompanying those who are among the most vulnerable to the violence of this US regime.

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — ‘He treated us like dignitaries. He sent a message by having us there. He lifted us,’ said Elizabeth Román, president of the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry.

A "Pre-Eminent" Moral Issue?! According to Bishop Seitz, the pope made clear that he wants the Catholic bishops and the church in the United States “to be united” on this crucially important issue [of migration], which is “a matter of human dignity.”

Pope Leo with the alley oop for all whom have been agitating the USCCB to pursue a strong, clear, unified response to the current crisis.
Oh — new reporting on Pope Leo from El Paso Matters, citing footage they have of yesterday's meeting.

Sounds like the pope was even *more* forceful in urging U.S. bishops to speak out about immigration than first reported.

I mean, that's…not subtle. elpasomatters.org/2025/10/08/e...

I love this essay by @maxwellkuzma.bsky.social in @ncronline.bsky.social on two of my favorite prophets: Sr. Thea Bowman and Kendrick Lamar. I have been ruminating on Lamar's theological aesthetics with my graduate students this semester; this essay contributes productively to our grappling.
Kendrick Lamar and Thea Bowman: Mystics of resistance
Using the medium of rap and the medium of theology, respectively, Kendrick Lamar and Sr. Thea Bowman have each ushered something new into the world: a piece of God incarnated in their own unique way.

Pope Leo largely gained praise from conservative Catholics over his first months, in a sharp contrast from the late Pope Francis, but the honeymoon appears to be ending. For @reuters.com:
Pope Leo's critique of Trump ends honeymoon with conservative Catholics
Pope Leo initially impressed conservative Catholics after his election in May as he embraced traditions shunned by his predecessor Pope Francis and steered clear of hot button social issues that divided the 1.4 billion-member Church.
