Happy Monday! Let's start this week with fairy tales!

ONCE UPON A TIME extracting high molecular weight (HMW) DNA was difficult. But now, with @pacbio.bsky.social Nanobind extraction kits. you get HMW DNA in, and beautiful long reads -> genome assemblies out! 💫⭐🧪🧬

About a year ago I pulled apart a 10X Chromium and estimated the component cost, that was fun!

10X Chromium Controller Component Cost Is Likely <$5000
There’s been recent talk of instrument-less single cell analysis platforms. One of the potential advantages here is you no longer need to buy an instrument (like the 10X Chromium controller) to perfor...

H/t to Nava for spotting this & posting to ASeq discord

First question posted to @nanopore CEO Gordon Sanghera at #JPM25 had 2 parts:

1. Do they have long read technology?
2. Do they see value in long reads?

The Next Few Years in DNA Sequencing
Some was asking on Twitter about the effect of Illumina’s IP expiring on the sequencing industry. I figured I’d summarize my thoughts here. I’m not a patent lawyer, so you should consider tha…

There is so much speculation about this. According to Aseq, it is expected to be a big box generating 15B reads in 4hrs, most likely at Q20 with 500 bp reads. What is worth noting is that Roche is not a startup, they have the resources to see this through. aseq.substack.com/p/roche-nano...
