"The daily experience of admin, behaviour follow-up and system trust still defines the job for far too many teachers."

Our members have consistently raised the alarm about workload. Lack of funding is a major driver.

Gift giving can be simple and thoughtful.

Classes might use a shared card to send messages to staff instead of individual gifts.

Ofsted is returning to routine inspections this month. We have been assured that no routine visits will take place in the final week before Christmas. Use our risk assessment guide to stay protected before, during and after inspection.

Last week’s Budget failed to address the crisis in our schools.

Cold classrooms, leaking roofs, broken toilets. Education is running on empty.

We do not take this step lightly, but the NEU will take whatever action is necessary to save our schools.

Although the removal of the two-child benefit cap is welcome, we cannot accept the continued underfunding of our schools.

Educators believed Labour would fix the problems in our schools and colleges, not allow them to continue.

The government must change course.

“Wealth inequality is the most common and crucial element in societal collapse,” says Luke Kemp of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk. “It corrodes the social fabric … hollows out societies, leaving them to be a brittle shell which can be cracked asunder by numerous different shocks.”

This is one of the richest countries on earth. There shouldn't be any hungry kids in Britain.

And you shouldn't go to bed at night wondering if a fire engine could get to you in time.

When Rachel Reeves delivers her budget next week, we will be watching.

Struggling to get my head around the logic behind this.
Labour’s “we have to do it, or racism will get worse” argument is striking. Any other public policy failures British ethnic minorities should be on the hook for? Can we be blamed en bloc for Rachel Reeves’ budget next week too? www.ft.com/content/37b0...

Home secretary’s framing of failures is partly low politics, but also a result of ministers’ poor approach to race relations
