Policy convenor, Scottish Liberal Democrats. "They are not on Twitter, but they are in local communities" - Kemi Badenoch
Pinned
We should make this the basis for our next election campaign.
🚨 NEW: Kemi Badenoch acknowledges the existence of the Lib Dems

- Considers them a “protest party for mainly people on the left”
- "They are not on Twitter, but they are in local communities"
- "They will destroy the whole country..."

In today's edition of "I'll believe it when I see it" news, the Danes have a sickness bug ripping through the camp. And totally weren't just resting players against a team they thought they'd pump.

That's embarrassing from Souttar then Hanley. I'd have had Hendry and McKenna starting in any event. Don't see them getting shown up like that.

Liberal Democrats are winning again.

The Holyrood election in May is an opportunity for change with fairness at its heart.

Because Scotland deserves better - and with the Scottish Liberal Democrats, you can vote for it.

Back our campaign and say no to Labour’s Digital ID plans www.libdems.org.uk/nodigitalid
No to Digital ID Cards!
Keir Starmer says everyone in the UK will be required to have mandatory digital ID. That’s not the kind of country we want to be. Back our petition to say no to digital ID cards.

The motive matters. Digital ID is not being brought in to make your life easier, but to make the lives of marginalised and vulnerable people more difficult. That will colour every aspect of the system's design and implementation.
I have a feeling the digital ID stuff will burn Labour badly.

Logic:

1. A lot of people hate the idea.

2. A lot of people who don't hate the idea "in theory" will hate the specific way that Labour have chosen to frame it all about immigration.

That doesn't leave much potential for happy people.

So sad to hear of Ming's passing. He was a huge influence on me politically. A brilliant and fascinating man.
Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

The attempt by New Labour to bring in compulsory ID cards happened while I was at Uni and is a big part of why I'm a Liberal Democrat and not a Labour supporter. Also, you know, Iraq.

This is a pretty good thread undermining the government's stated rationale for digital ID.
Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

There should be a high bar for politicians attacking the media, but maybe Ed Davey has half a point here?

For example, the first three paragraphs of this BBC story repeat Reform's £243bn figure without saying that the thinktank behind the estimate now disowns it. (This is mentioned in paragraph 35)

The media - yes, we will report on fun stunts

The media, also - the Lib Dems need to show they've got serious policies

However, the Lib Dems did...

Which may be a good opportunity to remind people that if you want a party that does stand up against such things - libdems.org.uk/join
It shows such a basic lack of political understanding that Labour didn't go straight on the attack over this.

Just because most people are worried about immigration being too high it doesn't mean they're psychopaths.
With Reform UK saying it would be reasonable to pay the Taliban to return migrants to Afghanistan, how many Britons this would be acceptable?

Acceptable: 17%
Unacceptable: 61%

% acceptable by party
Reform: 35%
Con: 23%
Lab/Lib Dem: 7-13%
