I have heard from businesses across Scotland recently about the massive increases in business rates which are looming in April.

I am calling for an immediate pause to the business rates revaluation, to ensure Scottish businesses are not hit with these eye watering increases.

Shetland has some of the highest energy bills in the UK while renewable energy infrastructure dominates the isles.

Community benefit needs to be meaningful.

The Scottish Government should commit to giving Shetland its share of ScotWind leasing revenues.

For years, Liberal Democrats have fought to get us back into Erasmus, so this is welcome news.

The UK Government must do more to tear down barriers with Europe.

They need to listen to our calls to negotiate a bespoke UK-EU customs union and commit to a youth mobility scheme.

For years, Liberal Democrats have fought to get us back into Erasmus.

The SNP promised a replacement for Erasmus but never delivered.

From young people to businesses, there are so many people in Scotland who have been messed around by the Conservatives’ harmful Brexit deal.

The Scottish Government themselves have said that these new bonds are to raise money for infrastructure projects.

Tunnels for Shetland should be seen as a “when” rather than an “if”.

This should be a no-brainer for Scottish ministers to agree to.

Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see safer drug consumption rooms, facilities that have a proven track record of keeping people safe, rolled out across Scotland.

We also want to see naloxone kits being mapped in the same way that defibrillators are.

We must defend the BBC against those who want to destroy it, and ensure it is strong enough to stand up to political pressure, whether foreign or domestic.

The UK Government are holding a consultation on the BBC's Royal Charter, you can take part here 👇

Had it not been for the unbelievably selfless actions of Ahmed Al-Ahmed, many more members of Sydney's Jewish community might have perished.

His heroism is a moving reminder of the common humanity that is shared by so many across all religions of our world.

At my asking, the Scottish Government convened a summit on waiting times for neurodiversity diagnosis and treatment, and the first meeting was yesterday.

A long way to go but we had the right people at the table and the solutions proposed could go a long way to reducing waits.
December 16, 2025 at 12:24 PM
When the SNP came to power only a handful of people ever had to wait over 12 hours, now we are seeing thousands every week and this week we've seen the second highest number ever.

That is the impact of nearly two decades of SNP mismanagement in our NHS.

Scotland has a huge amount going for it, unfortunately our huge potential is being squandered.

Part of that is Brexit chaos and red tape.

But the SNP's economic incompetence and scattergun approach to tax has made Scotland a less attractive place to build up a business.

The new electric car charge will hit rural areas like the Highlands harder than anywhere else due to the lack of public transport options and the large distances that journeys can involve.

This must not be another city-centric policy that hits those in rural areas with the bill.

I was out campaigning in the Borders when I heard of our fantastic victory in Fort William and Ardnamurchan this morning.

Congratulations to our newest councillor, Matthew Prosser!

Right across Scotland, from the Borders to the Highlands Liberal Democrats are winning again.

Scottish Liberal Democrats are winning the fight against the SNP in the Highlands.

The SNP's relationship with rural Scotland is broken.

The Highlands deserve better.

By backing the Scottish Liberal Democrats, you can get change with fairness at its heart.

We’re weeks away from Nicola Sturgeon’s deadline for closing the attainment gap, but the SNP are still a lifetime away from making it happen.

The SNP’s promise to a whole generation of pupils from deprived backgrounds is irrevocably broken.

While a lucky few head over the Atlantic, the appetite for watching Scotland’s games back here is going to be off the scale.

The Scottish Government should support our calls for huge fan parks across the country and late night licences for pubs for show the games.

Securing support for islands like Arran, Islay and Mull shows the committed community campaigning that you only get from the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

The job is not done however.

Our coastal businesses are every bit as impacted by disrupted ferries and they need support too.

People are crying out for real change and a solution to the cost-of-living crisis.

A customs union with the EU is the single biggest step the government could take to grow our economy, put money back into people's pockets and generate billions for our public services.

For the women who have spoken up about their experiences of travelling to Inverness to give birth, the SNP’s backtracking will be a real blow.

Holyrood has voted for an independent review of maternity services in Caithness, that is what we should now expect.

No ifs, no buts.

Yesterday the Liberal Democrats won a historic vote at Westminster in favour of a new UK-EU Customs Union.

This would be the single biggest step the government could take to grow our economy.

Keir Starmer must now listen to both Parliament and the public on this.
