Anyway, that’s the dark country wisdom of my foremothers to explain part of why short guys don’t get dates? We’re told there are downsides

I married a tall man and got actual vitriol from tall women during our engagement, like I’d taken a scarce resource that was theirs by right

I acquired this type of friend through blogging with vomitous mutual oversharing during IRL meetups and don’t know any other way

The billionaire class needs expectations. They all should be able to buy a newspaper, fly a helicopter, and make their talentless paramour an entertainment star.

a lot of people want to figure out a way to make populist appeals by being an even bigger asshole than Trump, but that's not possible. he's as purely concentrated an asshole as a person can get. there is no bigger asshole. you have to do something different.

My two cents: hippie food purity type parents share a lot in common with TheoBro parents and with the tech-lots-of-babies parents in that they all desperately cling to the idea that they can control (or “influence”, or “guide”) their children to live like they do, even when the parents are gone.

When you are a middle-class-plus Kentuckian, you follow one of two paths: (1) you become a hobbit and start fetishizing rootedness and "the land" and resenting outsiders, or (2) you realize the ornery, postmodern potential of your stateless, placeless, universally-loathed Scots-Irish forbears.

I treasured my Sesame Street record player that could play read-aloud stories. The books came with a 7” vinyl record in a pocket at the back. But I was raised by wolves in the 80s

The uncomfortable fact no one wants to acknowledge is that misogyny is a key element of what draws young men to fascism and the left should never copy that

*Black Phillip from The VVitch voice*

“Wouldst thou like to live…conveniently?”
Democracy is probably the most vexatious form of governance, which is why appeals to convenience will always be biased towards authoritarianism.
One of the reasons why I tilt at “consumerism” so much is that it encourages a mentality of convenience, and my concept of democracy is way less convenient, and often vexatious, and full of mistakes. I don’t love democracy because it’s easiest, or because humans all are ready to handle it.
