They/Them
Too amped up with thoughts from the film, especially my dissatisfaction with it (and maybe with Chainsawman as a whole) so I wrote it all out a new substack post. Please check it out if you have time and already seen it.

Rambling about the Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Movie
I love Reze, but don't see her as an object.

I had a good time! A fantastic animated work, especially in the big fight scene. However, I find this film is exactly what I expected from my relationship with the manga, and I wasn't a big fan of this arc in the first place.

I'm just glad I get to see anime films in my small college town
Heard this movie is pretty good.

Extremely important and well written article on the state of anime distribution through an undervalued but a pivotal practice in distribution, "typesetting". Some key takeaways (thread):

With the Fall 2025 anime season, Crunchyroll demonstrates zero respect for anime as a medium as the presentation quality of its subtitles reach an all-time low.

Addendum to my last point on capitalism not working: on the note of expensive new software, AI, and layoffs. Speculation is more profitable than sales. The promise of streamlined efficiency and AI production generates more than any product made by them, which is why execs are embracing it so much

Decided to dust off the substack again to write about some Japanese dramas I watched over summer break. A little bit of a more laid-back approach to tell you about some cool series out there. I hope you enjoy

As expected, the Demon Slayer film was awesome. Despite the series' usual narrative and characterization flaws, this production seriously elevated the anime spectacle film to a new hight. Extremely thrilling and visually impressive I'm so glad I got to see this in cinemas

A lot of the online fandom for Japanese dramas have gotten pretty decive about the netflix series Glass Heart's high production values. However, that obscures the fact that the show's writing simply sucks.

While a one-line meme review on letterboxd is very cringe, sometimes I'd rather read that than many of the user reviews on the site tbh...

I've been reading "Love in the Big City" and watching the tv series lately potentially for a seminar paper as I'm getting interested in queer media, especially film and television.

It really lives up to the hype, I'm genuinely enjoying both!
