Moods about “the economy” often bundle three things: your own finances, the broader data, and whether you trust policymakers. Right now, that third piece is dragging the other two down. Fixing policy credibility matters as much as any single rate cut.

Try this instead: I was wrong. I overstated narrow election results, underappreciating how many Trump voters didn’t believe he’d do what he said. I miscast fascists and oligarchs gaining political power as a popular cultural shift. I got some of this on X, failing to recognize it’s skewed that way.”

The gall to treat the 2024 election like it was a binding referendum on American culture, a lasting “vibe shift” to which others must accommodate, then within a year proclaim the cultural change over, as if a bystander, not an active contributor manufacturing vibe shifts by overdetermining results.

Fox reports that that while many of the redactions to the Epstein Files were made to protect victims’ identities, “the same redaction standards were applied to politically exposed individuals and government officials.”

In other words, DOJ admits that they edited Trump and his pals out.

I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Across the country, women are dying of sepsis, losing organs, being arrested for miscarriages, and used as brain-dead incubators.

Corpses have more rights than women living under abortion bans.

What better moment to run a full court cultural press about how freedom isn’t that great anyway?

another example of AI as tracer dye, exposing an already existing problem (and, of course, significantly worsening it)
I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite
Do not cite an academic paper unless you’ve read it

The Epstein Files: The Biggest Political Coverup in Modern History

The DOJ just scrubbed 16 Epstein files from its website, including a photo of Donald Trump, intensifying concerns that Trump is actively trying - & failing - to protect pedophiles.

They’re actually redacting Trump’s name AFTER the release.
🚨 The DOJ appears to have redacted Donald Trump’s name from the allegations made in this exhibit in the Epstein files.

Trump’s name was in the original release. Now, it’s blacked out.

See for yourself.

Former NSA employee (16 years) with a pro tip for you. Released controlled document on the left, Epstein on the right. See the difference?

In real redactions, some words, headers, and bits will almost always still be visible, but especially classification headers. These documents are UNCLASSIFIED

Now the real question: what are our representatives in Congress going to do about it?

Are they actually going to hold hearings, apply all punitive measures possible? Speak out loudly and often online, on the news, and everywhere else?

Where’s the leadership?

By the Epstein law directly, the only redactions allowed: A) victim identification and medical privacy data. B) Child abuse materials. C) Anything jeopardizing an active investigation. D) Snuff photos. E) National defense data. Each redaction requires a written justification – so where are those?

They law states they can’t redact it just because it embarrasses them. For example, here’s a snippet of my book (NSA #PP-2743-2429) where I outline when they lied to congress after the Snowden situation. Notice: no redactions at all:

Most importantly, Classified data has to be national security relevant. Ex: on the left, the redacted page and on the right, the fully declassified version. That’s the level of information that warrants classification and the Epstein files isn't that.

Even "Controlled Unclassified Information" is required to be marked clearly to prevent any ambiguity about handling. As an example, here's a U//FOUO document that was FOIA'ed by governmentattic in 2020. Notice the header? And how it had to be altered for release?

The FBI put a thousand agents (their own words) on trying to hide all the links between Trump and Epstein. They failed. When people found some additional photos of Trump in the release, the DOJ promptly DELETED THEM FROM THE DOCUMENT RELEASE.

Available to download Friday, some Epstein files no longer there Saturday afternoon
An NPR analysis of the Epstein files shows some documents, originally available on Friday, are no longer on the Department of Justice's "Epstein Library" website as the DOJ releases more files.
