When you leave in a car you’re thinking “what’s the fastest way to get there?”

When I leave on my bike I’m thinking “what’s the safest way to get there?”

We are not the same

our crossing guards do mission impossible and I am so thankful for all of them, but JFC the fact that we need "Guards" to simply ensure drivers don't run over school children?
This is what is so twisted about our auto obsessed culture that we don't even see how we've completely normalized this.

I think Rose from Live Oak to Hopkins might be better. It serves Live Oak on one end and Cedar-Rose Park on the other, plus four schools (Madeleine, King, Crowden and Acty). It’s a major youth corridor and intersects Milvia, California and Ohlone bike paths. It’s also now a speedway and car sewer.

Fantastic speech, complete with a Mario Cuomo reference and Trump callout. The Bollywood song playing as Zohran left the stage was “Dhoom Machale” - literally “Make some noise”

Every city should have a dedicated Speed Hump/Cushion program, as distinct from any general traffic calming initiatives.

Insane how one car hitting a power line can knock out power to an entire neighborhood, forcing PG&E and Public Works to scramble to restore power. And it's just like .. a normal Wednesday

"Making bikes as convenient to use as cars" should be a driving ethos of e-bike manufacturers imo.

Today I learned on The Nextdoor that some avid cyclists think bike lanes are “scary” 💀 because they are “forced” to use them. Hence we should get rid of them, to make them feel comfy and safe 🧸 on the road.

Lots of attention on this Marc Benioff article, which is excellent and full of jaw-dropping quotes.

It reminds me of how he was when I did a story for NPR about him secretly buying hundreds of acres of land in rural Hawaii. Things got weird.

For decades, local control and CEQA (even for infill!) were treated as untouchable sacred cows. Until they weren’t.

Even when it's unpopular, even when everyone is telling you it can't be changed, never stop pushing. You never know when the tide will turn in your favor.

If I witnessed this in person, I don't think I would be able to control my rage or my actions towards this driver
Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.
