On the left is a true color image of Titan. The moon's south polar vortex and north polar hood are visible in this view. The image on the right is a representation of what it would look like if you could see past Titan's atmosphere and down to its surface. The darker areas are vast hydrocarbon sand dunes. Both images were taken by Cassini's camera system, the Imaging Science Subsystem on April 13, 2013, as it was observing Titan’s sub-Saturn hemisphere and looking for clouds in its atmosphere. These images were taken on April 13, 2013 and received on Earth April 14, 2013. The camera was pointing toward TITAN at approximately 1,117,489 miles (1,798,425 kilometers) away, and the images were taken using the BL1, GRN, RED, CB3, CL1 and CL2 filters. The Sombrero galaxy, or Messier 104, is a giant Sa type disk galaxy viewed from just above its equatorial plane and outlined by a prominent dark rim of obscuring dust. The central bulge is unusually bright and extended, and orbiting the galaxy is one of the largest known populations of globular clusters, containing up to 1900 members. In comparison our own Milky Way galaxy has only around 150-200 such clusters. Nearby prime examples of these are Omega Centauri, Messier 4 and NGC6752. Highlighted in this image are 136 of the Sombrero's brightest globulars, ranging in V magnitudes from 17.5 to 22+. The names and magnitude details of these clusters are given here (from SIMBAD). Some of these globulars are very large and one is classified as a separate Ultra Compact Dwarf galaxy, SUCD1, the closest known example of such an object. It is not known how the Sombrero amassed such a large number of globular clusters. This is normally a more typical feature of large elliptical galaxies. For example up to 12,000 globular clusters are orbiting the giant elliptical galaxy Messier 87. The Sombrero Galaxy also contains a supermassive black hole of one billion solar masses - one of the most massive black holes among nearby galaxies. The galaxy lies some 30 million light years away in the direction of the constellation Virgo. In the background numerous distant galaxies can be seen, many of then clumped together in groups. New Horizons image of Io-Europa conjunction taken on March 2nd, 2007. Two LORRI image were combined and colorized with MVIC red and blue channel data taken 11 minutes later. The original image release using this data combined IR, red and blue filters as red, green and blue, this uses only the visible portion of the spectrum and interpolates the missing wavelenghts (such as green color). As a result, Io's jupitershine-lit hemisphere is not green here as methane is not strongly absorbing in the visible wavelength range. The color of the volcanic plumes, in particular the huge Tvashtar eruption seen here, should also be closer to "true" color. Mars Express HRSC image of Aonia Terra. This ancient region of the Martian highlands has accumulated a large number of craters, including Lowell Crater (203 km diameter; named after Percival Lowell) located at bottom center. The high density of craters attests to the ancient age of this region and generally quiet geological activity. This region is located deep in the southern hemisphere midlatitudes. At the time this image was taken, Mars had just passed the southern hemisphere's winter solistice. This event also occurs when Mars is furthest from the Sun. Combined with the high altitude, these factors make this time of the Martian year exceptionally cold within this region. The effects of this cold can be seen by the large CO2 frost deposits that cover most of this picture. This image was taken during Mars Express' 15,361st orbit of Mars, February 13, 2016. It is a composite of images taken through three filters that are sensitive to red, green and blue light. The moon's north polar hood is visible in this view. The darker areas are vast hydrocarbon sand dunes and seas. Cassini uses its infrared filter to see to Titan's surface. On the bottom is a false color view of Titan. This movie shows Mercury's globe as it rotates. A global color map of Mercury's surface has been created by mosaicking thousands of sets of images obtained by the MESSENGER Wide Angle Camera (WAC). The colors shown here are related to real variations in the spectral reflectance across the planet. This view captures both compositional differences and differences in how long materials have been exposed at Mercury's surface. Young crater rays, arrayed radially around fresh impact craters, appear light blue or white. Medium- and dark-blue areas are a geologic unit of Mercury's crust known as the "low-reflectance material", thought to be rich in a dark, opaque mineral. Tan areas are plains formed by eruption of highly fluid lavas. The color base map shown here consists of MDIS images taken through eight different color filters. Gonggong is a probable dwarf planet candidate discovered in 2007. It’s located in the Kuiper Belt roughly 100 AU (9.4 billion miles) from the Sun at its furthest point, and takes 550 years to complete one orbit.

Another Kuiper Belt object worthy of further exploration!
