Great to see this publication optimising a hydrogel-based model of cartilage. This approach has the potential to become a scalable platform to investigate biomechanical responses and replace mice in studies of musculoskeletal disease progression and ageing.

URGENT: FlyBase has lost practically all its funding overnight; even user fees are tied up in denied grant funding. 🤬🤯

Any lab using @flybase.bsky.social please donate using the link in post below.

This incredible community, on whose backs our #Drosophila labs depend, can't be left out to dry.
My lab studies bacterial infections. We spend a lot of time looking at (or for) species-specific genetic and genomic databases for hosts and microbes. FlyBase is the best of all—there is literally no comparison. Its existence is under threat. Please donate.

💡 If you are an educator, science communicator or researcher involved in public engagement, this card game from @comeflywithjo.bsky.social can help you talk about how scientists choose the right biological model for their experiments and options to replace animal use.
Top Trumps - but make it science 🤓 I had the most fun designing these, and I've written about how you could use it in your outreach programme!

I'm keen to spread the word to any educators/academics who might be interested - please share 🤗 @nc3rs.bsky.social

For 97 replications of 47 original experiments, 94% of replications were smaller effects than originals, and success rates ranged from 13% to 45% depending on the criterion.

Incredible effort!

dnschecker.org#A/pubmed.ncb... They're removing it from DNS.

You can currently get to it using the IP address 34.107.134.59 (add it to your hosts file or local DNS server), but like with USAID it's probably just a matter of time until it's gone unless they're forced to restore it.
