Because, if we assume interest rates don't change, then mortgages have a fixed nominal repayment rate? So this means that the higher the rate of inflation, the more front-loaded the repayments are? I'm guessing mortgages with a fixed real repayment rate would be too hard to deal with?

They mention inflation later, but presumably interest payments they show here go beyond just maintaining the value of the current debt? I guess I was thinking about ukandeu.ac.uk/dont-blame-d... Would subtracting the treading-water part of the payments be interesting, or am I getting confused?
Don’t blame debt interest for the fiscal squeeze - UK in a changing Europe
Jonathan Portes argues that the UK’s rising debt interest bill is not the reason why government spending is being squeezed while taxes...

The film's depiction of evil was also more interesting than I was expecting. As well as the devouring malevolence of Gwi-Ma, we also have his foot soldiers, and here it is much more human - a selfish, cowardly, and ultimately despairing compliance with subjugation.

Very badly executed censorship. Search for just one of the words, then nothing, but 'racism equity gender' gives results. Evil and inept.

Anyway, although I'm being rather critical, I think it's a good, interesting read about stuff that matters, even if I'm a bit skeptical of the universality of the diagnosis and the efficacy of the cures.

The issue he described for Amazon seems much more like monopsony - but from a naive user's perspective, it feels to me like its service is at least as good as it always was. So I think, at least for those skeptical of revolution, it's hard to shoehorn Amazon into the same category.

And are the issues with Facebook/Twitter/TikTok/Amazon really that similar? My main issue with Facebook seems is the very low SNR. Twitter and TikTok seem to amplify extreme views. And Facebook too, but for me that is all lost in the noise. Perhaps Twitter and TikTok are just at an earlier stage?

I think the difficulty is few people will pay for it, and the ways to make money from it are destructive. I'm sure there is a better balance, but I'm not sure how much better it would really be if it were still making money?

I imagine Libertarians may object, as his proposals involve governments/unions, and the two people he blames left office 1/3 century ago. But I'm also skeptical his cures would salvage something like Facebook.
