My younger brother never got spanked but it was because my parents figured out better discipline as they went along, not because he was a boy.

My mom had parents who whipped her with a switch till she bled for talking back, who openly favored her brother, and who were so poor she was literally malnourished. Also they took in her grandfather with TB and she got TB from him.

My mom desperately wished I understood how good I had it, on multiple levels. I did eventually learn to appreciate her but it took more time than she would have liked 😂
