At home in #Birmingham
At about the half way point, I realised I should have tried this out first before signing up for the competition… but by the end of my first full run through of #hyrox I actually felt quite excited about it! This is going to be tough though!

“Over 40k people die in car crashes in the US every year. Entire neighborhoods are carved up by high-speed traffic. Kids can’t walk to school safely. But don’t worry – someone saw a teenager run a stop sign on an e-bike, so the real crisis must be those darn batteries on two wheels.”
If you think electric bikes are bad, there’s a much bigger menace hitting our roads
Electric bikes are a menace. They go almost as fast as a car (if the car is parking), they’re whisper...

Thank you to Al for making time to meet local residents concerned about tackling road danger and making it easier to get around the Selly Oak constituency and the wider city, including several from @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org.

Shut down the youth clubs.
Sell off the playing fields.
Put up "no ball games" signs.
Make public places hostile to teenagers.
Then:
"Young people, eh? Always indoors looking at their phones."

I’ve always leant into action-focussed change rather than waiting for politicians, but hate to say that here in Brum, never before have we needed political change more than now.
Worried from what dark corners that cd emerge, how about a ‘Better B’ham- streets, homes, health and childhoods’ party?

Thanks @shivajishivalaw.bsky.social for this detailed commentary on the event tonight that I sadly couldn’t make. Let’s hope some of the visions of the panellists can be realised.

#Birmingham
An amazing city to live in.
We are NOT our failing council.
We are NOT what the national media loves to portray us as.
We ARE inclusive, friendly, diverse, disarmingly not up ourselves’, and a beautiful place for those that see beyond the superficial.

Here we go again… the 8 flimsy wands that prevent motor vehicles breaching the traffic filter by crossing the pavement have been removed again.
Just a matter of time before this happens (photos from last time)…

Great Charles Street, #Birmingham UK anyone? @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org
What happens when you turn a highway into a green space?

After a succesful trial period, the Tokyo Expressway’s KK Line will be repurposed into a public green space called the Tokyo Sky Corridor.

Paris reduced speed limits on the Boulevard Périphérique from 70 to 50 km/h. The results after 5 months? Reduced traffic congestion, smoother traffic flow, fewer crashes, lower air pollution, and lower noise levels. Read more here (in French) www.apur.org/sites/defaul...

As if #Brum doesn’t have enough rubbish piled up in the city already, do we have to tolerate the Reform party bowling up?

Great to see both Brum citizens and @ledbydonkeys.org standing up to it.
