Is F1 just gentrified nascar, or did we take F1 and make it more redneck?

This is a live cam of the sky in Iceland. If you’re in the US, it could give you a few hours heads up on what kind of night it might be!

And if you live somewhere cloudy, well, it’s also useful then

Scrolling through kitchen design on Pinterest and the amount of AI slop is honestly infuriating.

On the bright side, AI can’t figure out what to do with drawer handles, so it becomes a very obvious tell when two different cabinets have three different styles of hardware

I can’t stop thinking about the fact that even if Trump does follow through with the $2000 stimulus checks from the tariff income, that would still be less than the pay I lost when my company furloughed the entire staff for two weeks

…because of the tariffs

Since I’ve been reminded that biphobia is alive and well, I just want to brag about my bisexual husband.

He’s the kindest, most thoughtful, most creative man I’ve ever met. He cooks for me. He makes sourdough. He makes the most beautiful ceramics that I get to eat and drink from every day.

Some wins from Maine:
Question 1, an attempt at voter suppression, was strongly rejected.
Question 2, the start of some common sense gun laws, passes by a similar margin.

This is what happens when we turn out. This is exactly what they were trying to suppress.

Absolutely obsessed with the fact that Cuomo lost the primary to Mandani, and then switched to an independent ticket so he could lose to him again.

Do not disrespect the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by calling it a “Great Lakes sea shanty”. A sea shanty is a work song that uses a rhythmic chant to coordinate tasks such as hauling an anchor or hoisting a sail.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a BALLAD. 😤

Low battery beeps on the smoke detector woke me up so now I’m Awake™ and hungry

Trying to be grateful that I can afford necessities like 9V batteries but boy howdy do I wish smoke detectors could run out of battery during the day.

Also wishing it was easier to fall back asleep 🫠

This little message at the end of Hollow Knight 🥺

I know I’m almost 9 years late but I’ve been so engrossed in this game for the past couple weeks. I absolutely loved it.
Thanks for everything @teamcherry.bsky.social

Today I went to a friend’s place to watch the Bills game, and afterwards they had a PowerPoint party.

I didn’t know about this beforehand, so I threw together a pretty good PowerPoint about gemstones in 30 minutes.

Look at me, using my mat sci masters degree.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

While everyone is paying attention to Maine politics, I’d like to remind my fellow Mainers to get out and vote on (or before) Nov 4.

Vote NO on 1!

Question 1 is “solving” a problem that doesn’t exist and stripping thousands of Mainers of their rights.

I’m sitting on the couch with my husband and I just looked over and this man is making a note on his phone titled “friends”. It’s just a list of our friends that we haven’t hung out with in a while 🥺

I started looking into other candidates running in the Maine senate primary, and it looks like Jordan Wood has built his career working for predatory PACs.

I’m fucking tired.

This is a REALLY good video that gets into the *specifics* of how AI is degrading our information environment and putting truth further out of reach for the average person / the population as a whole
I walked into the lounge last night to find my teenage son watching this. We have long admired @kurzgesagt.org and found their videos to be extremely illuminating. But this one in particular I think is so important right now!

My screen time is down significantly and idk if it’s because I’ve set times I’m locked out of social media (which I keep ignoring) or if it’s because I’m just spending all my free time playing hollow knight

This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

If you ever get a chance to be part of an interview process, especially early in your career, I cannot recommend it enough.

We’ve been interviewing for an open role in my department, and I’ve learned so much.

I’m not trying to leave, but I feel so much better prepared for any future interviews.
