After many years, I finally finished reading Maniac Magee. I wish I wasn’t so disinterested in this book when I was a kid, because it is genuinely such an amazing read with very topical themes even today.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This is the most unsafe I’ve felt living in the United States in my entire life. I’ve broken bread with undocumented people, lived in lower income neighborhoods, and not once did I feel like my life was under threat. With ICE in our streets, this is the most unsafe I’ve ever felt in my country.

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple.
Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

It’s horrifying knowing that I’m the “wrong skin color” in an area that currently is throwing people who look like me into unmarked vans, taking them to concentration camps for no reason. I hope everyone who voted for this or supports this knows how horrible of people you really are.
