One example of this, which I think was just hastiness on a breaking story, was a weird Politico item that recapped Trump's SocSec/Medicare history without mentioning his record as president

Donald Trump’s new shared fund-raising agreement with the Republican National Committee directs a portion of donations to the political account he has used to pay his legal bills before any money goes to the party itself.

🎯:

“The media, and especially the New York Times, helped to create this problem. They co-produced Rufo’s plagiarism brand with their obsessive coverage of Gay, in a way they did not cover public figures facing similar accusations, such as the President of Stanford or Justice Gorsuch.”
After Claudine Gay's resignation, Rufo learned that plagiarism was a smear that he could use to attack scholars of race, no matter how flimsy the evidence.

New, from me. Please share if you want people to understand the machinery behind these attacks.

Elon Musk told Don Lemon that he doesn't subscribe to great replacement theory.

Yet Musk has been pushing a vile, toxic video all about great replacement at the top of his X feed.

I looked at his public statements. His clean-up act is nonsense. 1/

Elon Musk Pushes a Vile, Toxic Hate Video—and Exposes His Own Scam
The great replacement theory video that Musk has pinned to the top of his feed is sick. And it shows that he’s turning X into a safe space for far-right propaganda.

I deleted my post that said Ohtani has it in his contract he can opt out if Ippei is fired. It’s unclear if that’s true.

And regardless, Ohtani is obviously not going to opt out of his contract if the dodgers fired a guy his lawyers are saying stole millions of dollars from him.

relatedly, the fact that someone would rather use their senate seat to get listeners for a podcast than use it to govern or influence the direction of the federal government is a testament to the perverse incentives of conservative politics and the stark weakness of congress

The "plagiarism" here is just the names of major scientific studies and the dates of data collection.
This is a witch hunt targeted primarily at scholars of color who study race.
Chris Rufo now going after Christina Cross for "plagiarism" - his go-to example is *descriptions of data that are similar.* There are only so many ways you can describe data!

if this gets signed into law i am going to make a hard push for my agent to try to book me a talk at an alabama university, just to see what happens
banning "CRT scholars being paid to speak on campus" seems straightforwardly like a way to ban state universities from allowing any black scholar or thinker to speak on campus by giving authorities leeway to say they represent "CRT"
AL SB 129 doesn't ban DEI offices. Here's what it DOES ban:
- CRT scholars being paid to speak on campus
- Programming for international students
- Black student unions
- Faculty assigning a video of a German citizen expressing guilt for the Holocaust
