I think it is a typical example of how historical contingencies (US companies trying to avoid wage caps during the Second World War by offering private insurance) can lead to the creation of vested interests that will block a move to a better equilibrium. More a tragedy than a joke, really.
Let’s be clear: the entire democratic world thinks the US healthcare system is a joke.

We should acknowledge that MAGA and Trump’s victory were enabled by internet platforms whose business models reward fear and outrage. Dems had 8 yrs after FB enabled Trump and never had a floor vote in either chamber on a single bill that could possibly have addressed the harms. 🧵1/x
