One of the major problems with billionaires owning major media is that it literally does not matter if they are profitable. They can take a loss on them because the propaganda and narrative control is worth every penny.
Bezos isn't trying to make the Washington Post successful, obviously. He's trying to turn it into his Twitter.

Mass firings, shutting down critical services, blowing up our alliances, crashing the markets, encouraging inflation...

These aren't the actions of a political party aspiring to get reelected.

These are the actions of an authoritarian regime that does not intend to honor elections ever again.

So now that Israel has admitted it's starving & besieging Gaza again, will all the US liberals who've made a show of 'standing with Ukraine' 'stand with Palestine'? Will they talk about Israel with the contempt they talk about Russia (also deserving, tbc) & Trump?

Insane story with insane examples. I can’t believe this is actually happening in America thanks to people like Cruz. You literally couldn’t make this stuff up:
A Study of Mint Plants. A Device to Stop Bleeding. This Is the Scientific Research Ted Cruz Calls “Woke.”
The senator flagged thousands of National Science Foundation grants for using words like “female” and “diversify.” A ProPublica analysis found numerous examples of projects caught up in his crude meth...

School play gets canceled for "inappropriate content".

In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival.

Why haven’t they been arrested? What they’ve done is illegal. And why are Senate Dems not doing everything possible to stop them? 22 voted to support another one of his nominees *today.* pretend you are Mitch. Stonewall everything.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the past 4-8 years. Our democracy is entirely built on the assumption that people will play by the rules
Ah damn it turns out this whole political system relies on false assumptions about how big of an asshole someone could be

My spelling is so bad and my writing so indecisive that autocorrect will sometimes just stop suggesting things. Like “Dude, we have no idea where you’re trying to go with this”

incredible to have a president who appears to be speed-running getting impeached, and even more incredible to to have two other branches of government who are just sitting there watching it as if it is actually a livestream which they are unable to impact in any way

Better yet, imagine if media literacy instruction was embedded into *every* course, and there were already educators certified in media literacy in almost every school who have BEGGING to teach this for decades. Imagine!
Imagine if media literacy as a high school class. Literally teaching kids how to read and parse and fact check consumed media. I see no downsides. Maximum real life applicability.

Any librarians recording this Green Bay / Philly game? You should rewind and screencap that shot of the Philly player reading a paperback on the sideline. We can all use it in our sports-related book displays for years, lol. (It was about 7:00 remaining in the 4th, 7:19pm eastern)

Ideas needed: I’ve created a sensory-friendly space in our chaotic library for those who need calm. It’s used by folks with anxiety, ADHD, autism, mood disorders, SPD, personal crises--even kids with concussions. I’ve got calm lighting, comfy seating, etc. But the walls are bare. Any suggestions?
