I spend ⅓ of my income on Healthcare and have a "good" plan through my employment (BC/BS). But I have had cancer twice, have a kid & spouse with medical issues, and they Absolutely raise your rates for that.

I just want to be able to afford to fix the plumbing & replace the failing windows. I don't want to be "rich." Compared to most of the world, we Are rich. But reality is 2 working adults with college degrees in America can barely participate in this country.

we have a house, mortgage only $1,300/mo bc we live in 2nd poorest (rural) county, so additional $ to commute 30min-1 hr to the jobs. 1 kid just started (community) college. we don't live high. 26 yr old truck. Cancer expenses. we garden, fix stuff ourselves. Better off than most. but this is real.

As someone in a family of 4 that just hit 100k last year, full time workers plus side gigs, this made horrible sense. I was shocked at tax time "that's rich people $!" - why are we struggling? I had celebrated when I finally made more than poverty... But yeah, not better, really.

So @alepresser.com and I had a meeting with SIDEQUESTED's publisher this week (such nice people!). No specifics, but the numbers it takes to move a book from "meh" to "ROCKSTAR!!!" are laughable. Your sales have so much influence over publishing!
