we lazed our way along the trail hand-in-hand
admiring the moss making green carpets
stopping to photograph the delicate wildflowers
listening to the song of the wind & birds
holding our breath in wonder at the waterfall
a delicate cascades turning rocks into wet jewels
Should I dance a border dance?
Play a mummers' play?
Bid welcome to the Mari Lwyd?
Or hope it goes away?
Ancestors from across the pond
Mixed here a New World stray
But heritage stares out of the dark
Their dreams still light today

This year I choose to remember one of the first recognized female astronomers, Elisabeth Hevelius. (1647-1693). This published Polish woman began her systematic study of the stars with her husband, but continued & published after his death.

faded memories
along the rocky coast
playing in tide pools
anemones waving
hermit crab walking
sea star bright & slow
gulls crying above
waves crashing against long stone benches reaching from the cliffs
where footprints worn by ancient ancestors
greeted my toes like old friends
