The Federal Reserve is the only federal agency where the Supreme Court seems interested in enforcing its legal protections. This puts them in a much stronger position.

It is very hard for other agencies to defend their legal independence with SCOTUS opposed to it.
Powell, showing more guts than almost any GOP legislators:

"The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Fed setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President."

This is appalling: Top DOJ officials are actively pushing for a criminal investigation into the widow of Renee Good, leading prosecutors to quit en masse, NYT is reporting.

Who in the White House ordered DOJ to do this? That's the next thing to establish.

HAPPENING NOW: In federal court in MN, DOJ is struggling to articulate why a person following an ICE vehicle — so long as they are obeying traffic laws — can be stopped for "reasonable suspicion" of a crime.

Judge Menendez sharply questioning that contention.

I cannot emphasize how much “be the news” is the opposite of what I was taught about how to be a good journalist and strikes me as an excellent way to churn out elite solipsism that has nothing to do with the public interest and everything to do with self promotion www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/b...

Watching people losing their minds about Dem rhetoric on ICE and it's like people don't remember how Project 2025 played in the election just over a year ago.

In addition to Good's murder, ICE has been busy in Minneapolis causing car wrecks and traffic jams, filling the streets with tear gas and goons with loaded weapons, issuing specific threats and sewing general chaos.

This is not law enforcement to preserve order. It's an occupation to cause chaos.
Trump's thugs are going hog wild and tossing gas around in one of the busiest commercial districts in Minneapolis, just a mile or so from where I live. Complete insanity.

For what it's worth, I think that if another plaintiff filed another, identical suit, adding the facts of how these have been happening *and specifically calling them Kavanaugh Stops* ... I think they'd get an injunction sustained at SCOTUS
/5 Third: Lawsuits can be brought against specific law enforcement agencies for specific habitual practices. The very case that led Kavanaugh to endorse the disgraceful “Kavanaugh Stop” was one such case, showing how hard they are — SCOTUS is a race-profiling fan.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

Corporate and foreign interests that used to rely primarily on paid lobbyists to pitch their case to lawmakers and administration officials are instead pouring money into trying to get their cause promoted by a group of influencers known to be close to Trump’s staff.

There's extreme paranoia about ICE tracking people using videos or whatever. People think anonymity is what keeps them safe, when in reality it's numbers.
Why are people reluctant to share them, especially since they can easily share them anonymously?

If people hadn't been willing to share video, for instance, the official narrative on George Floyd would have stood, and his death would have been fully covered up. It is really vital that if you have video of ICE acting aggressively, you let the public see.

I have to say, I'm a little frustrated, there are vast numbers of horrifying videos of ICE circulating privately right now, but a lot of paranoia about sharing them publicly on social media. Sharing is fairly low-risk and THE ONLY WAY the full scope of what's happening here will be understood.

Guys I appreciate all the support but I want to be clear that there are thousands - maybe tens of thousands - of Minnesotans doing what I'm doing right now. Most are just everyday neighbors, nice old folks, college kids, baristas, who cannot abide what they're doing to OUR CITY and OUR NEIGHBORS.

OK, YOU should still absolutely not release a video talking about the charges against you. Powell gets the one-in-a-million exception because he knows what he’s doing and is resisting authoritarian trash.
Let us all stand with Chairman Powell.
