Say it with me:

American farmers overproduce low value commodities for an increasingly competitive global market and other countries like Brazil and Argentina are happy to compete in an ecological race to the bottom, replacing rainforest with soybeans and selling them to China.
Which states are most exposed as soybean exports falter? - Investigate Midwest
U.S. soybean producers are ending 2025 facing one of the most uncertain markets in recent years. China, by far the largest buyer of U.S. soybeans, has sharply reduced its purchases throughout the year...

Nearly a quarter-century ago, Dick Cheney personally meddled in a govt report finding that Klamath Basin fish actually need, y’know, water—an act that led directly to the catastrophic salmon die-off in 2002 and thus paved dam removal’s way. Now Dick’s dead and the Klamath lives. Makes ya think.

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

I think this is great news. This is 7 million acres of land that can be converted to low-intensity agrivoltaics. We could produce a trillion kWh/yr, raise higher-value crops, restore huge swaths of native prairie, and still increase net revenue per acre by an order of magnitude.

You are correct. We will not get back the soybean market

The Department of Homeland Security is telling police to treat mundane activities like skateboarding or live-streaming at a protest as "violent tactics."

This is disturbing, dangerous, and could easily lead to excessive force against people who are simply exercising their First Amendment rights.
Skateboards and Livestreams: DHS Tells Police That Common Protest Activities Are ‘Violent Tactics’
DHS is urging law enforcement to treat even skateboarding and livestreaming as signs of violent intent during a protest, turning everyday behavior into a pretext for police action.

Every night I play a random mix of old R&B and jazz while I wait for my toddler son to drift off to sleep and as a result he’s really drawn to my old-man music. Like, “Give Me The Night” by George Benson is currently his favorite song followed by a couple joints by the late Brazilian singer Tim Maia

I rarely comment on these things, but these are unusual times. 249 years ago the Declaration called Natives "Merciless Indian Savages.," and the Constitution excluded us from protection while enabling our dispossession. We remember this history not to cause harm, but to grasp the consequences./1

The empire is coming home, just like Chris Hedges says it will.
Their definition of gang? Obviously, it’s more than 2 black or brown people gathering in the same place at the same time. This is so f****** racist.
