He also loves them because he can do them unilaterally. It gives him a feeling of power to be able to cause destruction and chaos with the stroke of a pen.
Trump loves tariffs because he feels like it’s a way to shake people down. Even better, shake FOREIGNERS down.

He thinks protectionism is more akin to a protection racket.

He clearly gets an almost sexual thrill from announcing them, and the more, and the higher, the better.
