"Earlier, I wrote about how women have lost a disproportionate number of jobs this year. There isn’t a single, obvious explanation for why women are bearing the brunt of an economy that’s sluggish for everyone but the top 10 percent. Then, a clearer narrative emerged." --Jessica Grose

“Walmart was the top employer of SNAP recipients in five states and one of the top four employers in the remaining four states. McDonald’s was among the top five employers of Medicaid enrollees in five of six states and SNAP recipients in eight of nine states.”

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Once again, the main day of Tea Party protests had about 300,000 nationwide, but saw endless coverage.

The No Kings protests had about 7,000,000 nationwide, and many media outlets reacted with a yawn.

No Kings was nearly 25x as big as the Tea Party but the Tea Party got 25x the attention.
Ask yourself this: How would the New York Times have covered the protests if it had been seven million MAGA supporters flooding the streets? We don’t even have to guess: We know how they and other mainstream outlets covered the Tea Party protests during Obama’s first term.

Banana republic - Wikipedia

...Such exploitation is enabled by collusion between the state and favored economic monopolies, in which the profit, derived from the private exploitation of public lands, is private property. At the same time, the debts incurred thereby are the financial responsibility of the public treasury.

Typically, a banana republic has a society of extremely stratified social classes, usually a large impoverished working class and a ruling class plutocracy, composed of the business, political, and military elites.[1] The ruling class controls the primary sector of the economy by exploiting labor >

Today I thought, "that is some banana republic shit right there," and looked it up. It's frighteningly apt. "A banana republic is a country with an economy of state capitalism, where the country is operated as a private commercial enterprise for the exclusive profit of the ruling class."

Yes.
Today, Los Angeles received its first honor of three Michelin Stars. The head chef of Somni, which received three, removed his jacket to reveal a t-shirt which read “immigrants feed America.”

Reprehensible.
People with disabilities came to DC to save Medicaid from Republican cuts.

Instead of listening, Republicans had them arrested.
In Washington protesters fighting to save their #Medicaid were arrested today.

People have been impersonating law enforcement for a long time to do crimes. As women, we know that we better see i.d. b4 allowing any access. The masked unidentifiable seizures must not stand.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

Your tax $ at work.
Imagine putting on all this tactical gear and latching onto a military assault vehicle so you can storm a minimall on Sepulveda and apprehend a line cook at family restaurant.
Heavily-armed DHS paramilitary forces in military vehicles fired dozens of stun grenades at a crowd of onlookers today in Los Angeles.

Now is a great time to reach out to your member of Congress who promised not to cut Medicaid.

Or to your conservative friends who don't think we should be exploding the debt.

Because today, Donald Trump met with Republicans on Capitol Hill, trying to pass a bill that would do both.
