Hey @mark-carney.bsky.social, if you try and build another oil pipeline through BC, don’t expect to elect any MPs here. We don’t want it.

Using the notwithstanding clause to stop legal challenge to back-to-work legislation is a nuclear event for all unions. Will it lead to a general strike in Alberta? It certainly should lead to the Supreme Court establishing Constitutional limits to the clause, or else we have no rights and freedoms.
At 2 a.m., the Alberta legislature passed a bill that will force 51,000 teachers back to work, impose a four-year contract and use the notwithstanding clause to stave off a legal challenge and suspend teacher bargaining at the local level. It includes fines for Ts and the ATA if they defy it. #AbLeg

turns out the vaccine-induced turbocancer was... anti-cancer
Covid-19 vaccines, credited with saving millions of lives during the pandemic, set off a powerful alarm that rallies the human immune system against cancer and nearly doubles the median survival length of patients, according to a new retrospective study.
Study finds mRNA coronavirus vaccines prolonged life of cancer patients
A study found that covid-19 vaccines appeared to awaken the immune system in lung and skin cancer patients, helping them live longer than those not vaccinated.

Another calming shot to bid you good night. If it's been a tough week, I wish you happier times ahead.

This was from a few days I spent on assignment in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, a few years back. More details in the ALT.

Peace, joy, calm and love to you all.
Have a great weekend.

Yesterday, I spoke to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. Here is a re-worked and extended version of my remarks.

In short: It's time to wrap up the longest ballot protest. It's not working, and it won't work.

I won’t be watching live results tonight but I’ll always remember learning of the 2015 election results. Our flight was just starting its descent into CDG when the pilot came on the intercom and announced the result and the plane erupted into applause.

Anyway, let people like Danielle Smith and Preston Manning expose themselves for what they are: selfish, petty pro-MAGA ideologues, more interested in pursuing a narrow vision that sees Alberta as little more than the oil industry. Most Albertans are better than that.

This is an incredibly important truth that should concern every one of us, anywhere in the world. We’re seeing the epitome of this playing out in the United States right now. In Canada, it’s playing out as real experience, credibility and integrity vs empty anger, swagger and slogans.
The skills it takes to win a campaign (win arguments, wield charisma, etc.) are basically the opposite of what it takes to govern well (listen deeply, collaborate, negotiate).
