Vote suppression is such an American tradition, news media barely reported on it, & when they did, rarely framed it properly. But it’s the biggest factor behind ‘24 results (other than anti-incumbent zeitgeist)
Now that more numbers are in, an overview:

Drafting a disclaimer for an LLM chatbot…

Persistent alerty button under the chat fields:

Do not use this output without confirming it.

Which pops a modal with the following:

Recent research confirms that the output of LLMs are inaccurate and lead to a reduction in critical thinking.

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare.

Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.”

We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

"ChatGPT isn't summarising at all, it only looks like it.
What it does is something else and that something else only becomes summarising in very specific circumstances."
When ChatGPT summarises, it actually does nothing of the kind.
One of the use cases I thought was reasonable to expect from ChatGPT and Friends (LLMs) was summarising. It turns out I was wrong. What ChatGPT isn’t summarising at all, it only looks like it…

This is a hilarious way to say “we haven’t figured out how to make AI do anything useful”

Trying and struggling to think of any consumer facing tech that feels *less* consumer driven than generative AI

This is exactly why I (correctly) framed the deployment of generative AI as an attack
Dismantling the fact-checking infrastructure is going to be super handy when things start going wrong in the new administration and they want to redirect blame onto the left.

Two years ago, I marveled at how easy it was to get travel info about esoteric towns via the internet. So much useful UGC. This time, it’s been hell. Search returns AI bullshit, outdated reddit content, trip advisor spam, and gobs of autogenerated crap. Finding accurate info is impossible. Le sigh.

There is no guarantee “Generative AI” will improve enough to categorically be what its vendors (lie) say it is.

But there’s a very good chance it will be weaponized by the ownership class for “keeping up with competitors,” grift, sunk-cost fallacy, and intimidating workers with job replacement
This assertion that AI will only get better is a strange one to me because, let me ask a question. Did Facebook get better? Did Twitter get better? Did Social media get better?

I've been seeing a lot of people on the left and right talking about the 2024 election as if it was a landslide.

So I made this chart to put things in context.

Trump's win was one of the smallest in modern history.

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
