McNeil actually fills both spots. He doesn't have platoon splits so you can see who is worse, Koss, Gilbert who ever and McNeil takes their spot. Now you can't guarantee he's going to be a better overall bat than Schmitt who now has proven in 3 years to be about average bat.

A Senga + McNiel package would be really interesting for the Giants and then like you said they could trade Schmitt to a team that needs a 3rd baseman (Mariners?)
