On the other site, Studio Ghibli-style AI output is going viral and allow me to just say it is profoundly depressing to see that stuff being used to promote OpenAI's latest product. Miyazaki famously called AI-produced art "an insult to life itself"—and this in turn is an insult to him.

No, no, no. The US is not behaving like a “third world country”, or a “banana republic” or as if it were “Americastan”. The US is behaving like a Western country, because that is what it is. That term just doesn’t mean what you think. Stop dragging us into your mess. Own up to who you are.

NEW: LibGen contains millions of pirated books and research papers, built over nearly two decades. From court documents, we know that Meta torrented a version of it to build its AI. Today, @theatlantic.com presents an analysis of the data set by @alexreisner.bsky.social. Search through it yourself:

'how do we weigh smug claims about the life saving benefits of steam transportation and modern grain markets when so many millions, especially in British India, died alongside railroad tracks or on the steps of grain depots?'

Lots of talk of the left dividing itself over pointless feuds, but didn’t we recently just have Occupy Wall Street, Me Too, Black Lives Matter and Ceasefire Now? Not bad for a divided left. Not saying there aren’t divisions, but what interests me much more is the brutal backlash to each movement.

Maybe eventually Verso books might acquire Teen Vogue. Well done on this article.
When a single billionaire can accumulate more money in 10 seconds than their employees make in one year, while workers struggle to meet the basic cost of rent and medicine, then yes, every billionaire really is a policy failure.

From the US perspective, the main focus in Angola is the Lobito Corridor railway, which is shaping up to be a test of Western and Chinese commitments to African development.
