I can't begin to explain how painful it is to see the practices of the Danish SocDem become the guiding light for Labour.

Coupled with the fact that Labour is doing a really poor job at it. Seems like there is a LOT of fog in the North Sea and they can only see a blurry outline and vague concepts.

Do we have a Home Office jeweller team, appraising stolen jewellery, and storing it in Whitehall and trying to sell it to ghouls.

German Jews of the 1930s are still being reunited with seized assets that private collectors and Nazis stole during their slaughter. You really want that image?

A lot of this is probably distracting from the other vile elements of this story

But just what are the practicalities? A Home Office department to appraise jewellery stolen from refugees? "Sorry, this one doesn't cover the application fee, got any other baubles?"

Politico report MP anger at the Sun report. It may have been "overbriefed".

There is a question about what the policy is on assets and costs: would they audit jewellery? Might they take it?

There are other questions about language, control of media comms and politics & ethics on this issue

If this really is what is being proposed, I think adding the jewellery confiscation policy + the 20 year policy could kick off the kind of PLP revolt that (without rapid u-turn) could entirely destabilise a struggling government that risks falling over on every front

There is no evidence that stripping refugees' rights one by one will have any impact on people crossing the channel.

Taking jewellery from refugees is akin to painting over murals for refugee children.

These repugnant ‘deterrents’ did not work for the Tories, and they won't work for us.
