me to the united states: this could be us but you playin’
A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

In memory of Donald Shoup, we re-released our 2023 interview with the brilliant, witty and influential scholar. "The High Cost of Free Parking" is a hugely important book and his research has influenced countless planners and advocates around the world. RIP.

This has got to be one of the biggest policies that a community coalition has ever pulled through an unsupportive Seattle city government. Usually when policies are this popular, city electeds take them on rather than requiring all these initiatives.
Tonight’s Special Election results are posting now and there are two important results so far:

Seattle’s Social housing initiative 1A - a citizen created and community rooted initiative to fund social housing with a corporate high-earners payroll tax in Seattle is passing #waelex #seaelex

Just a reminder that boycotts are a small but powerful action you can take right now to piss off the oligarchy. Who are you giving your money to?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how important cultivating community is, especially right now. Would anyone in the greater Seattle area be interesting in a group (maybe on Discord, open to other suggestions) to discuss mutual aid, organizing, no-buy exchanges, etc?

Ok #booksky, let’s talk.
