One of the key points of non-violent direct action is to force the authorities to stop you -- to force their hand, to make them arrest you, and yes, perhaps even make them lash out in violence -- and to broadcast those images to an otherwise apathetic public.

Be confrontational, not compliant.

Remember, never take this White House at its word and report it as fact right off the bat.

They are now conceding that they made up the whole "$50 million of condoms to Gaza" thing that Karoline Leavitt peddled from the podium yesterday.

White House walks back claim $50 million worth of condoms were being sent to Gaza
The Trump administration walked back the claim on Wednesday, clarifying that the $50 million was part of a broader aid package

Folks.

I am still telling jokes on the internet like a doofus. I want to explain why I am telling jokes like a doofus when people, especially marginalized people but also everyone else, are being slowly pulled apart by the most ghastly people imaginable.

The answer is, for my mental health.

it is so important to remember that IN THE MOMENT there was no one who thought jan. 6 was some innocent protest gone awry. everyone recognized it for what it was.
At the time, everyone, including Republicans, understood how bad it was. Then, brick by brick, they built a foundation of lies to justify doing what they know, deep down, to be wrong. Trump betrayed the country. And so do they.

We spend $800 billion+ a year on defense, and a significant and disproportionate number of those killed in America are by the veterans we train, arm, traumatize, and then abandon. Maybe a could hundred billion of those dollars could go back to the social safety net instead.

the progression of AIDS treatment in my lifetime, from how terrifying it was as a child in the 80s to stories like this 40-odd years later, is genuinely one of the human race’s most awe-inspiring scientific achievements. it was a nonnegotiable death sentence for SO LONG
After nearly three decades, a Minnesota summer camp for kids with HIV/AIDS is closing and up for sale... because retroviral drugs are so effective that there aren't enough campers.

Science works, y'all.

My least favorite thing that social media has done is make people over explain to avoid bad faith arguments and misinterpretation. To be clear, we SHOULD be mindful of how we word things. But saying one thing is your favorite doesn't mean you hate the other thing.

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

A lot of people think everything will work out if we just play by the rules but don’t seem to recognize that rules only matter when everyone agrees to follow them and, well, that isn’t our present reality.
