One thing that makes indie games so special is that the developers get to focus really hard into a niche. Either visually or mechanically.

Take your favourite game / genre and go all in on honing and expanding the idea. The crunchy and intricate stuff that a larger studio can’t waste time on.

I'm incapable of comprehending how people make games.

All my Godot projects are just blank canvas I use to throw random shit at a wall and break things.

I have variable height terrain! 🏔️ Sure, doesn't look ground-breaking (pun intended) ATM, but this is just a quick demo and I cant wait design more interesting maps around this. A couple of post processing shaders should also work some wonders!

Gibberish is not only funny, but also pretty practical.

It keeps the focus on the gameplay, makes localization easier, and can even have a in-universe reason for existing.

If games companies don't want to pay voice actors what they could do is just not have spoken dialogue. Games did that for decades. It's fine. Just DON'T USE THE PLAGIARISM SLOP MACHINE OH MY GOD IT IS NOT HARD TO NOT USE IT YOU JUST DON'T USE IT THAT IS ALL. GAMES DO NOT ALL NEED VOICES.

Here's my pitch: cigarette smoke bomb!!!

It's literally just a pack of cigs tied up and lit on fire. Creating a smelly and damaging AOE.

I still really wanna make a list of videogame cigarettes and how they affect you in game. Like “System Shock 2: depletes health and replenishes psi” and “Metal Gear Solid: depletes health, reveals laser tripwires”. I’m obsessed with how cigarettes are implemented in such funny ways

As a multiplayer developer myself, I think the arcade soccer genre is pretty slept on. I can say the same for most sports games (The aren't bland yearly releases).

Indie game devs, what is your schedule for working on your game?

Don't have one? You need one. Can't finish a massive project that takes months or years without a schedule or a routine.

Mine is to wake up, and immediately work on my game. Sometimes for only an hour, but progress is progress.

Just finished Zeta Gundam. Probably my favorite series so far. Thought I'd make a Zeta beam rifle of my own. My favorite moment is when Kamille explains to Char why he can kill and Char realizes what he's done. Looking forward to more Haman in ZZ too.

OK. It's done, I fixed it. My blog is now readable, to you at least.

I used the Dark Reader chrome extension for general convenience, but now have to disable it for Blogger.

For context, I was implementing a coyote time mechanic using coyote code which relied on coyote variables.

THEN, I kept a coyote count throughout the devlog for funsies.

No spoilers, but it's a LOT of coyote coyote coyote.
