The only writing advice I stand by across the board is that you should read widely, read good writers attentively, take pleasure in their use of language-the rhythms, the imagery, the clarity, conviction, beauty, insight, whatever it is each has to offer. You have to feel the language in some way.
Writing advice tends to destroy the village in order to save it. Decades ago, someone overused adverbs and someone else got annoyed, and now we have generations trained not to use an entire part of the English language.
There's only one rule - don't do it shitty. The rest is mostly bed-wetting.

Oh my god this is among the best videos I have ever seen
I’m starting to think anything David Lynch has ever said was so simple that it was inherently profound and forever relevant. He was a man of so much wisdom he will be greatly missed. I wish Covid never happened and he wasn’t isolated from filmmaking for those stretches of his final years.
