HAPPY TAX DAY!
How much would you spend on a year of tornado warnings? The average US taxpayer spends only $4 a year to help fund the NWS. It’s a smart investment—every $1 invested in NWS yields approx. $73 in social benefits.
🌪️❄️ Support science. Support the NWS.
Stay tuned for more this #TaxDay

Some AI is going to tell a college age nazi to fire almost every incident and natural disaster response team in the federal government because they didn’t have much to do during February 16-23, 2025.
Even accepting LLMs are capable of this task (lol, no), this is set up to fail, to create excuses for arbitrarily firing people.

Nobody was told that was the query; you can't tell "mission-critical" from five bullet points; a snapshot of one week won't tell you that either; the list goes on and on.

It seems UHC is adding diagnostic codes to claims in order to extract more money from CMS through their Medicare advantage plans. Would love to see significant reform from this investigation, but most likely just a 50 million dollar fine followed by business as usual (sad trombone sound)
The US Department of Justice is reportedly investigating the insurance giant UnitedHealthcare for its Medicare billing practices.

New: We spoke to government IT employees/contractors about DOGE. Their warnings were dire. The people who maintain the systems that keep the country working are terrified. "This is the largest data breach and the largest IT security breach in our country’s history—at least that’s publicly known."

The remote work debate was funny because it forced the question "Is a job something valuable you do or is it a place you go to be watched like daycare" and the answer for a lot of them was yeah it's the daycare thing now come on inside recess is over

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?
