First block of my second quilt is done! I fear I’ve escalated in difficulty, and this is going to take a lot longer than I thought. Though hopefully not the almost seven years it took me to finish the first quilt.

Y’all my Singaporean in-laws are about to arrive for their first joint visit to us in years and years and we were thinking of taking them to Tortas Y Tacos La Chiquita as it’s close and it’s definitely outside what they can usually get in terms of cuisine but looking for suggestions!

It’s worth thinking today of all the elections you *aren’t* hearing about because they were unopposed. In so many sheriff and prosecutor offices in particular, including in blue-ish or even solidly blue areas, “tough-on-crime” folks often reign for many years without ever being challenged.

So so good to see. More than I even expected, more emotional to see this win than I thought!
Every single county in Virginia shifted Blue.

My dentist is retiring (sobbing still) but my hygienist is staying with the new merged practice, this is the best news I’ve had all week.

Still sick, but seeing my cats enjoying sun spots is cheering me up.

I’ve been really sick all week (still in bed 🤒 in fact) but seeing all these photos from the No Kings protests are so cheering me up!!

Not both me and my husband filling out the near miss survey within a month of each other for the same intersection (both drivers trying to turn right on red and not checking for pedestrians/stopping at all)

Y’all I fixed my broken floor lamp (thank you Girl Scouts!) and ordered Jets pizza and I’m going to have a lillet spritz and pretend it’s not cold and wet and sad outside.

Saw this very good Newfie enjoying the cold weather on my walk to a friend’s place in DC. Meanwhile my fingers are so cold I can barely type.

My one tariff-panic purchase was an entire gallon of my family’s favorite vanilla. And I did get it for less than $1 an ounce, soooo not feeling too bad.

Bought an expensive microchip feeder to try to keep one cat away from non-prescription food, only to realize the US has not standardized pet microchips and so her type of chip is not compatible with this feeder (which is from a UK company). I know this is my fault for not checking but I'm so mad.

I used to joke my in-laws got a great deal by sending their son to the US for school, cause they got me! And the real truth is I got a full ride to my university, exactly in part because my husband chose to come to the US and his parents paid an astonishingly high price for him to do so.
"Last week, Vance said foreign students at elite U.S. universities are 'not just bad for national security,' but also 'bad for the American dream, for American kids who want to go to a nice university but can’t because their spot was taken by a foreign student.'"

Universities are caving to Trump with a stunning speed and scope
Some of the nation’s oldest and wealthiest institutions are swiftly bending to President Donald Trump, who is acting on longstanding conservative criticisms of universities as elitist and progressive.

I call my senators most mornings (usually to complain at them these days)! 5calls.org has scripts if you need them and all the offices and numbers.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

Instead of the SOTU, I’ve finally entered all (ok not technically all but basically all) my fabric into my threadloop account. @threadloop.bsky.social I both love and am horrified by the automatic calculation of total yards.

Was not prepared for Friday to be worse, but really shouldn't have been surprised by it.
Y’all it has been a week both work wise and also *waves hand* and like it’s not even over yet?!

Anyone know much about Bernina sewing machines - the Artista 185 in particular? I am thinking of grabbing one that seems to be in good shape but it's still pricey and I'm used to my practically ancient Bernina 801 matic so the newfangled features this thing has are daunting! 🧶

if you're a democratic senator and you're still voting to confirm trump nominees despite him allowing elon musk to gleefully dismantle the government then your brain has fallen out of your ass.

What and I cannot stress this enough the actual fuck. But also in good news found pussy willow at Whole Foods so my decor for our New Year’s party is actually going to be so great this year. Also their stem and leaf mandarins were extra nice.
