I like all of these words
It would be very funny if the Diamondbacks went from “We are trading Ketel Marte to the Red Sox” to “We are not trading Ketel Marte and we are stealing the Red Sox third baseman that they traded their franchise player to make room for”

The O’s beat out the Cubs and Red Sox, two of the richest teams in the sport (altho they haven’t acted like it in years).

WTF is happening?
The Red Sox and Cubs were the other teams who met with Pete Alonso at the Winter Meetings yesterday, per @JonHeyman

I don't know whether to be happy about this post or whether this means the #Orioles will absolutely NOT get any of these guys. Why did this have to be from Nightengale!
After signing Pete Alonso, the Baltimore Orioles are still in hot pursuit of a front-line starter. Tatsuya Imai, Ranger Suarez, Framber Valdez are all potential options while they also continue to aggressively monitor trade options.

Lost in all this: Pete got less than what Chris Davis got! #Orioles
Orioles are signing slugging first baseman Pete Alonso to a 5-year, $155 million deal (pending physical), according to a source. ESPN's Jeff Passan was on it first.

Huge move by the O's to bring the Polar Bear to Baltimore.

I'm not NOT freaking out
The Baltimore Orioles finally get the proven offensive guy they’ve been chasing: Pete Alonso agrees to 5 yrs, $155M, as @JeffPassan said, per person familiar with deal. Biggest free agent move of Elias’s tenure by a wide mile. And given state of the rotation, they’re not done.

If by Pete Alonso you mean Paul Goldschmidt, then maybe!

THIS
"... and I have every intention of using that to my advantage to help my clients land comfortably, elsewhere..."
Super agent Scott Boras on the Orioles this offseason:

"I know that Mike [Elias] has every intention to add players to his team. He's been in regular communication with us about that"

Boras represents free agents Pete Alonso, Tatsuya Imai and Ranger Suárez, among others

We've all heard this shit before. Not a good sign. #Orioles are gonna try so hard and never say the biggest number for any marquee free agent.

It’s gonna be Nathaniel Lowe isn’t it?

Elias also says “trust me” in this video when asked about being willing to offer a long term deal to a pitcher and maaaaaan oh man. I dunno about you but I don’t think I trust him!
Mike Elias says the Orioles have space in the payroll to sign both an impact bat and a frontline starting pitcher this winter

"We do have room for multiple more moves"

“Their goal isn’t winning a WS but maximizing profit” perfectly describes more than half the league
If they didn't learn that lesson from Ohtani and the Angels, then their goal isn't winning a WS but maximizing profit.
If the Tigers choose not to trade Tarik Skubal, they must take their best shot to win it all in 2026. Column: www.nytimes.com/athletic/687...

The #Orioles signing any FA star to a massive deal -- whether good or bad -- is unfathomable. We're hoping for Elias to do something he's literally never done before. If we do sign Tucker or Schwarber or Framber or even Ranger), I think I'd act like Cartman in this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsee...

Just gonna go ahead and preemptively congratulate the #Mets for signing Framber
@SNY_Mets tweeted
Per @Feinsand, the Mets and Orioles are "among the favorites" for Framber Valdez.

"Baltimore GM Mike Elias was in Houston’s front office during Valdez’s first four seasons in the organization, while Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns was the Astros’ assistant GM

It’s almost as if the real problem in MLB is that more HALF THE GODDAM LEAGUE isn’t really trying to win. 6 teams in the top 10 in revenue spend less than 50% of it on the payroll, including the Yankees! (Keep doin what you’re doin though, Hal. Appreciate it.)
The Red Sox are in the bottom 3rd in % of revenue spent on payroll. And they have the 4th highest revenue in the league.

The Orioles could have just had Dylan Cease for the last 2.5 years if Mike Elias had done his job in 2023
November 26, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Wait a marquee free agent pitcher signed a much bigger deal than everyone expected???

Just get it over with already and sign Jose Quintana and Zach Eflin, #Orioles
BREAKING: The New York Post has learned Dylan Cease to Blue Jays. $210M, 7 years

Red Sox added Crochet last offseason. #Orioles added Sugano and Charlie $%&#@&! Morton.

Red Sox add Sonny Gray this offseason. O's will add ___________ ...

(My guess is Jose Quintana and Tyler Mahle)
