#OtD 11 Nov 1933 perhaps the first recorded sitdown strike in US history occurred in the Hormel meatpacking plant in Austin, MN. Workers drove out scabs and violent private guards, and occupied it. Within two days, bosses caved to their demands stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8344...

many variations of Jack Prescott late-night commercials in MN.

All claimed "the busiest" & included his tagline: "This is all I do, and I do it well."

remember the concerned/hate mail that &As It Happens_ got when they announced they'd be changing their theme.

"Do not worry. We are not changing the iconic melody, just updating the instrumentation/feel" or some such

Despite @wedge.live insistence that these #Minneapolis Ward comparisons to US States are based on voter math, NOT Vibes. Most of the comments are about vibes -- & are also entertaining.

Putting the Minneapolis election in terms even a dummy could understand. These are city council wards statistically matched with their equivalent US state, as measured (mathematically) by their tendency to vote progressive or anti-progressive.

damn, forgot @minnpost.bsky.social for local.

so, PBS News Hour (check listings) also puts all their full nightly episodes on youtube and their website.

while sometime watered down for their audiences: BBC & The Guardian (both UK) and DW (Germany) coverage of US news seems much less biased.

Some historical context (that might take some extra digging to fully understand) from @dbrauer.net

I love this stat. You don’t have to squint very hard to say what happened in 2025 was almost all Mpls wards resolved to their natural state. 8 returned to left column, 2/10 stayed DSA-psyched, 7‘s rich assholes regrouped in streetfight with renters, 5 was never as progressive as Peak Jeremiah.
Bruce Dachis and Nasri Warsame combined vote share, 2023: 37.30
Lydia Millard vote share, 2025: 37.07%

media skepticism is healthy under any circumstances, but especially now.

I like what @sahanjournal.bsky.social , @racketmn.com , @minnesotareformer.com , & neighborhood newspapers are doing in MN / Twin Cities.

National news is difficult.
