"The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone."
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Is there a term for when you asked the LLM to do something, it did it wrong, and now it's taking you more time to re-orient the LLM than it would have taken to do it yourself?

Disgusting.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Somewhat confused re: the Bari Weiss freakout. CBS News–already distressed inventory–is just a thing Skydance owns, and Skydance drive meh content like Mission Impossible and Spykids: Armageddon. They brought in a right-winger to make their news more right-wing, so... still not getting it.

How W. E. B. Du Bois responded to government policing of "anti-American" sentiment during the 1910s:

"I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, 'We are seeking to have the Constitution of the United States thoroughly and completely enforced.' ”

The weakest president I’ve ever seen. While he has the Senate, the House barely has a governing majority.

A smart man, like Bill Clinton post ‘94, would see this and trim his ambitions and work with opposition towards common goals.

But Trump has no understanding of politics other than GOP good,
I think there's an additional presumption about Trump here, that he's in some sense deeply/authentically perceived as a "strong" leader and it's perilous to challenge *that* notion. But it's his own creation. There's no reason to accept it as baked into the background conditions of our politics.

This, so very this.
In the 2010s, this country's elites were thrown onto social platforms with everyone else and could finally read what we all think about them and it caused them so much psychic damage that they decided to destroy both the internet and democracy to make sure nothing like it ever happened again.
If this is what it took for you to be pushed into fascism you were probably already there
