The prompt I was asked to do was highlight Alan Scott this year, and his role as an elder gay. I took that and wanted to lean into him as welcoming, both to the other characters in the queer space, but us as the audience.

And just to say it out loud, trans folks everywhere are the exemplars of the dignity of humanity. We should all have the basic right to own and control and embody our own essential selves. If we can’t do that, what can we do? What are we allowed? Who are we, if not us? Who I am belongs to ME.

MY TOP FIVE #CONAN STORIES
I recently finished all of Robert E. Howard’s Conan, and it was a blast. Classic sword & sorcery.
As great as it was, the racial stereotypes became frustrating, and makes these stories hard to recommend in 2025.
However, these were my favorites…

I’ve taken a deep dive into Robert E. Howard’s original Conan stories. This is some of the most fun I’ve had reading Sword & Sorcery in a long time.
The Tower of the Elephant, originally published in March 1933 in Weird Tales magazine, is a real standout thus far.

Rereading @gailsimone.bsky.social and @davidmarquez.bsky.social’s first arc on Uncanny X-Men. The characters have such a lived-in feel. The book is full of glimpses of parts of their relationships we don’t normally see, how they are “around the house.” So good.
